Due to COVID-19, HTC will host its annual conference using VR Education platform Engage
As delegates are unable to physically meet for the HTC Vive 2020 Ecosystem Conference, they will instead use a platform called Engage. The platform is already being used to host a variety of online meetings by organisations such as The University of Oxford and Educators in VR.
Using avatars, speakers from a variety of countries including China, France and the US will deliver their presentations virtually without having to travel. Within the platform speakers can move by teleportation and deliver PowerPoint presentations.
The HTC Vive Ecosystem Conference normally takes place in Shenzhen. The virtual event could be attended by around 2000 participants from over 50 countries and using VR on this scale represents an industry first. XR will be a key topic at the event and the opening speech will be delivered by Cher Wang, Chairwoman of HTC.
The conference will also be attended by teams that were due to attend other events that have been cancelled including GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications), GDC (Game Developers Conference), ESL (English as a Second Language) and GTC (GPU Technology Conference).
“ Coronavirus continues to impact us all and we feel that by hosting this conference virtually we can mitigate some of the disruption that it has and continues to cause businesses globally, ” David Whelan, Chief Executive, VR Education.
Key features of the Engage platform include:
- The ability to connect up to 50 remote users
- Include over 1200 3D objects
- 21+ virtual locations
- Media streaming
- Create presentations
In addition to the Engage platform, showcase educational experiences include the sinking of the Titanic and immersive experiences relating to events from WW2.
VR Education is currently listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange and on the Enterprise Securities Market.
