Masai School, an Indian EdTech startup company, raises $2.5 mn in pre-series A funding 

Masai School, an Indian EdTech startup company has raised $2.5 mn in pre-series A funding from Unitus Ventures, India Quotient and AngelList India.  This news follows the recent acquisition of WhiteHat Jr by BYJU’S.

A core part of Masai School’s model is to allow students to repay the cost of courses once they have gained employment.  To facilitate this, Masai School has partnered with a number of companies including Samsung, Sharechat, UrbanClap and Paytm Money.  Through this approach, Masai School is aiming to offer an alternative to traditional Higher Education.  This will encourage an uptake in students from rural areas.  It is also accepting applications from students that have no prior experience in programming.

Founded in 2019, Masai School offers full stack, web and android based online coding courses.  It has campuses in Bengaluru and Patna, though the majority of its operations remain online.  The funds will be used to expands its infrastructure and attract additional students to the platform.

The demand for technical graduates is still high in India and EdTech remains a growing and vibrant market.  In recent months over 14 companies have raised funds amid the Covid-19 pandemic according to Business Insider India.
