Rileybot: Challenging Young Minds – Day 3 of Appvent

December 3, 2024

Welcome to Day 3 of the 2024 Appvent Calendar, where we continue to explore the most innovative tools shaping the future of education.

Appvent has always been about showcasing impactful EdTech solutions, and this year’s focus on #24DaysOfAi is already sparking excitement and inspiration.

Day 3 - Appvent24

Today, we are thrilled to introduce Rileybot, an Ai chatbot designed specifically for schools, with a focus on fostering deeper learning and engagement for younger learners. Rileybot does not just deliver answers, it challenges students to think critically, explore concepts, and overcome misconceptions, all while providing a safe and supportive environment. Let us dive in to discover how Rileybot can transform the classroom and home learning experience for primary-aged children.

AI tool of the day:

Rileybot is a versatile tool in that it can be used by a wide range of students across multiple disciplines.  That said its design is more likely to appeal to primary-aged children.

By engaging with Rileybot during lessons, students can deepen their knowledge and understanding of topics and follow individual lines of inquiry.

Educational Benefits:

Rileybot has been designed to give age-appropriate responses to student users.  This makes it particularly effective for younger children as they can understand the responses given by the chatbot.

Rileybot has safeguarding features embedded in the product.  Teachers can access a dashboard to see conversations between children and Rileybot. Any flagged messages are accessible within this dashboard.  A message is flagged when the content has been automatically scanned and deemed inappropriate or a potential safeguarding concern.

Here is a video of Adam Webster, CEO of Sphinx AI (creator of Rileybot) explaining these key features:

Practical Application:

Rileybot can be used to help in the completion of homework tasks. The example below shows how the chatbot can assist a student with science homework.  This is hugely beneficial for supporting home learning and could potentially reduce a lot of the stress and pressure placed on busy parents on school evenings.

Example of Rileybot in action

Of course, Rileybot can also be used in the classroom.  During lessons, children often have to wait until they receive support from teachers and teaching assistants which can lower progress and leave both students and teachers frustrated.  With Rileybot each student can receive individual support and therefore learning is personalised and greater progress can be achieved.

Considerations and Tips:

If you are interested in knowing more about Rileybot you can book a demo here

Students can use Rileybot on iOS devices.  Photos of work can be uploaded and then used as a basis for prompts.  For example, during a maths lesson, Rileybot can help students understand incorrect answers by explaining misconceptions.

Monthly and yearly subscriptions are available, as well as three main subscription options, broken down into Pixel, Bolt, and Alpha.  This information is all available on their website here

As is the case for all AI tools, teachers and students are encouraged to check responses for bias and accuracy.

As with all the tools we review, teachers must consult their school’s data protection officer to check compliance before creating student accounts.
