EdTech VC Sparkmind invests AUD $2.7m in HE platform Vygo

Australian SaaS platform Vygo will use the investment from EdTech VC Sparkmind to drive its European expansion

EdTech VC Sparkmind invests AUD $2.7m in HE platform Vygo

The investment round led by EdTech VC Sparkmind and supported by SuperCharger Ventures will enable Vygo to expand in Europe.  Vygo is working with higher education institutions around the globe to reinvent the conventional social support ecosystem online and to ultimately build borderless social education communities for each student.

Introduced through SuperCharger Ventures’ accelerator programme, Sparkmind.vc leads the round including other investors such as the Australian Catholic University, Angel Investment Network and other undisclosed institutional and private investors.

The demand for Vygo has sky-rocketed in recent years due to the need for HE institutions to extend their support services beyond the physical campus. A recent JISC study estimates that up to 96% of university students require additional access to support during their undergraduate degree. This demonstrates the need for support services to be more accessible than ever to ensure that students are getting the best educational experience possible.

Ben Hallett, Vygo CEO & Co-Founder, comments: “At Vygo, we believe that every human deserves a world-class education and that social experience is at the core of impactful learning. The Vygo platform gives every learner a social education community filled with their peers, mentors, tutors, advisors and other supporters. With Vygo, education institutions are able to reinvent their social support ecosystem online and ultimately improve their student outcomes whilst scaling their impact. Being 100% EdTech focused Sparkmind.vc is an ideal partner for us and we look forward to continuing our journey and mission together.”

Commenting on the deal, Sparkmind.vc Partner Kai Talas says: “As we know, creating a sense of belonging and engagement are critical factors for better student wellbeing, learning outcomes and lower dropout rates. Enabling targeted support and network building, Vygo’s platform allows universities to offer exactly this, at scale. We see this as a critical element of the student experience and believe it will be one of the key success drivers for universities going ahead. On top of the deeply meaningful offering and the global market opportunity, we are also very impressed by the highly capable team and the momentum the company has generated.”
