Day 20 of #24DaysOfAI – Easy differentiation with Diffit

December 20, 2024

Welcome to day twenty of the 2024 Appvent calendar where today we will focus on Diffit.

Day 20 - Appvent24

As the name suggests Diffit is a fab tool that teachers can use to quickly and easily produce differentiated educational student resources.

The materials produced by Diffit are both age-appropriate and transparent (Diffit lists its sources!).

Day 20 - Calendar

AI tool of the day: Diffit

Diffit is so easy to use.  Within a mere matter of seconds, you can generate content that is broken down into a summary, a list of bullet points, key vocabulary words, multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and open-ended prompts.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there as Diffit can automatically then organise that very content into various worksheets and activity booklets.  This a real-time saver for busy teachers!

Templates exist to support reading, writing, summarising learning, text analysis, and much much more.

Educational Benefits:

Like many of the tools we have reviewed, Diffit can save teachers lots of time while ensuring that all learners are supported as resources can be modified for different reading abilities within a few clicks (or taps 🙂).

You can also modify the responses that have been Ai generated.  For example, you can remove or add words from a vocabulary list.  This places the teacher firmly in control.

It’s great that Diffit shows the sources that it draws upon when generating content.  Even better is the fact that you can tweak this list by removing certain sources e.g. Wikipedia.

Language teachers will also love Diffit as it incorporates a handy translation tool.

Practical Application:

When you sign up to Diffit you get immediate access to all the various tools for approximately a month.  Following this your account will revert to a freemium model which from our experience is still really good!

Once you are all signed up it’s really easy to start creating resources as can be seen in the picture below:

Diffit Options

We love that you can either start with your own content or have the Ai create everything for you (entirely from scratch).

When using YouTube/ article links, Diffit will use the entire transcript or text to generate resources and you can still set the intended reading age to make those resources accessible for your students.

Following this you have the option of inserting the text into a worksheet or graphic organiser.  The picture below shows a few of the many templates on offer:

Please note that once a template is selected, Diffit will automatically populate it for you. It’s that simple!

Finally, you can export your content in a variety of formats for sharing elsewhere e.g. PDF, Google, Microsoft, etc.

Considerations and Tips:

When generating content it is important to check for bias and accuracy.  Teachers should also consult their school’s data protection officer to check compliance if planning to use this tool in an educational setting.

As previously mentioned the freemium account will suffice for a lot of teachers.  Of course, there are some limitations and this page (scroll halfway down) provides a full breakdown of the differences between free and paid accounts.

Diffit has a Professional Development page containing:

  • A getting started with Diffit slideshow
  • A video introduction showing all the main features
  • Presentations showing examples for different ages and subjects
  • Video reviews and examples produced by other teachers

You can also complete a short course to become a Diffit Certified Educator after which you can proudly share your badge on social media.

You can learn more about Diffit by visiting their website here.
